Exhale

Since I've been moderately superstitious about this entire ordeal, now is the time to come clean. I got a job! Hooray! And not another waitress job, but a real-life, wear nice clothes to work job! I never thought that this one interview would yield a job and begin to take my life in a new direction. I applied at Esrock Partners (advertising, marketing and public relations firm) for the position of a copywriter. After two interviews, first meeting with the owner of the company, then two copywriters, I was asked back for a third interview. I was pretty confident in myself and my work during interviews and for post-interview follow up assignments. Today I walked in and was offered the position-but not the EXACT position I had applied for. I applied to be one of two copywriters. I got offered an opportunity to get to that point after 4 months. Call it an internship, call it training, whatever. Either way, I got my foot in the door, and if I do well, which I'm sure I can do well, it's mine. I will be working mostly alongside of the senior copywriter, learning the ins-and-outs of the business to business advertising world. I will be working full-time and paid. Right now they have 2 interns who are coming up to their 4 month "review" and he said both of them are going to be hired onto the creative team!
This company is pretty small but very successful. Depending on how well you do and how hard you are willing to work, your job title and salary will reflect as such. It's a good sign that the position I'd be filling, the girl who previously had it is moving up to a higher position within the company. It's a fun office, good atmosphere, and everyone seems to be very laid back.
I'm hopeful that come the end of the 4 month period that I will prove myself worthy of becoming part of the team. I know I can work hard and I know that I will try my hardest to do well.
At least the internship is paid :) If nothing else, if for some reason I realize this line of work isn't for me, I will have the experience on my resume and under my belt to look for more work. But I believe things could be great there. As the owner said, "It is what it is, and this opportunity is just that, an opportunity. If you do well and excel you'll be great and find a career here."
I'm very hopeful that good things are coming my way. Just a few weeks ago I felt hopeless, drained. Now I feel full and happy. Bring it on New Year.
